Year 6 to 7 Transition
The move from primary to secondary school is one of the most exciting milestones in a child’s life, and one they will always remember. At Tomlinscote, we understand how important it is to make this transition as smooth and positive as possible.
This year, we are welcoming students from nearly 30 different primary schools. Strong, supportive relationships with these schools are central to a successful transition, and clear communication ensures that students feel confident and ready as they move into Year 7.
At Tomlinscote, we have a dedicated Head of Year 7, Mrs Teare, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Ms Helene Livesey, who has overall strategic oversight of Year 7 and the transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. This fixed model allows us to provide consistent support and maintain the strong links we have built with our local junior schools.
If you have any questions about the Year 6 to 7 transition, please contact Ms Helene Livesey (Assistant Principal – Transition and Progression) at the school on hlivesey@tomlinscoteschool.com or 01276 709050 ex 3006
Year 6 Transition Information evening
Our parent and carer Transition Information Evening will be held on 24th June 2026, with two sessions available at 6:15pm or 7:30pm. This evening is designed to provide information about Year 7, answer questions, and give parents and carers the guidance needed to support their child during the transition.
Upcoming Year 7 students
We are excited to welcome all students who will be continuing their education with us at Tomlinscote. During the summer term, we will visit students at their junior schools as part of our transition programme.
The Induction Day for students will take place on 30th June 2026, giving them the chance to experience secondary school life, meet their teachers, and get familiar with the school environment.
We provide a student booklet with lots of information about the school and how things work. This is shared during visits to the junior schools and is a helpful starting point for Year 6 students.
Supporting your child
Helping your child prepare for secondary school is an important part of the transition process. Life at secondary school can be quite different from primary school, and support at home makes a big difference.
