The Tomlinscote Curriculum – 2023-24
Students are taught in lessons of 50 minutes with 6 lessons each day (Monday – Thursday). On Friday all year groups finish at 2.15pm and have 5 lessons that day. The information below relates to lessons, students will also have tutor time, assemblies and a wide range of clubs and visits. Some lessons (PE and Technology) will be taught in double periods, the others are typically spread across the week as single periods.
In Year 7, students also have an enrichment lesson (PSHE). This will focus on:
- The School Values
- Mindfulness and emotional intelligence
- Digital literacy and e-safety
- An extended project
Year 7 Language – French or Spanish.
Students can continue to study Japanese or Mandarin Chinese outside of the school day through Years 8 to 10.
GCSE content begins at various stages, eg Science in Year 9 in January. Students choose their Options during Year 9 which they begin after the May half term. Over 20 courses are available in the Options curriculum with a mix of academic courses and more vocational-related courses.
Triple Science entry – approximately 120 students in each GCSE year group.
