Applying for a year 7 place at Tomlinscote
When your child starts Year 6, it’s time to apply for secondary school. The following information will help you understand the process and key dates.
How to apply
You will need to apply for a secondary school place through your Home Local Authority between 1st September and 31st October each year. In Surrey, places are allocated using an equal preference system. If you live outside Surrey, the process may differ, so please check with your Local Authority.
All applications must be made via your Home Local Authority. If you are a Surrey resident, you can apply online at www.surreycc.gov.uk/admissions or call 0300 200 1004
The Supplementary Information Form (SIF) for Tomlinscote should only be completed if you are a member of staff at the school applying under Priority 4 for your children. Staff should check the admissions policy for eligibility and contact the Admissions Officer if needed.
Number of places available
Tomlinscote will offer 300 places. Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names Tomlinscote will be given priority. This may reduce the number of places available for other applicants.
Important dates and deadlines
- By the end of October – applications will need to be made to your Home Local Authority
- Early March – If you applied on time (by 31st October), your Home Local Authority will notify you of the outcome of your application.
- Two weeks later – Surrey residents must accept or decline their school place by this date. Failure to do so may result in the offer being withdrawn.
If you live outside Surrey, your Local Authority may have different rules for accepting a place, so please follow their instructions.
Open evening & school tours

Policies and catchment
Please view our admissions policies and catchment map using the links provided. When looking at the catchment map, note that the boundary runs down the middle of the road, which may affect eligibility depending on which side your child lives.
Missed the deadline
