How to Apply for In-Year Admissions
In-Year admissions
Thank you for your interest in transferring your child to Tomlinscote School. If your child needs to join us outside the normal admissions round, you can apply for an In-Year Admission. Tomlinscote is part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT), which manages admissions, waiting lists, and place allocations in line with the school’s Admissions Policy.
When to apply
You can apply for an In-Year Admission if:
- You are moving house and your child cannot continue at their current school.
- Your child has been home-educated, and you now wish for them to attend a mainstream school.
- Your child currently attends another local school, but you would like them to transfer to Tomlinscote.
Applications can be submitted at any time during the school year. Applications are processed in the order they are received, and offers are made as soon as a place becomes available. We always act in the best interests of the child.
Please do not withdraw your child from their current school until you have secured a confirmed place at Tomlinscote or another school.
How to apply
Applications for In-Year Admissions should be made directly to Tomlinscote School using the School Managed Application (SMA) form. Guidance notes are provided with the form.
When submitting your application, you will need to include:
- The completed SMA form
- Two proofs of address
- Any supporting evidence (educational, medical, or other relevant documents)
Completed applications can be sent by post or email to admissions@tomlinscoteschool.com.
If you are a member of staff at Tomlinscote applying under Priority 4 for your children, you should also complete the Supplementary Information Form (SIF). Staff should check the admissions policy for eligibility and contact the Admissions Officer with any queries.
For guidance on applications for children from abroad, please refer to Surrey County Council’s Admissions Policies.
What happens next
We aim to process applications and notify you of the outcome within 10–15 school days. If a place is offered, it must be accepted within two weeks; otherwise, the offer may be withdrawn. Once the place is confirmed, the child is expected to start as soon as possible to ensure continuity of education.
If a place cannot be offered immediately, your child will be placed on the waiting list, which is ranked according to the school’s Admissions Policy. Positions on the waiting list can change as new applications are received. Waiting lists are cleared at the end of each academic year, so you will need to reapply if you still wish to be considered.
All applications and offers are shared with Surrey County Council Admissions within two working days.
Appeals
If your child is not allocated a place, you have the right to appeal. The Surrey County Council Schools Appeals Service administers the process for Tomlinscote School. For further information, guidance, and appeal forms, please visit: www.surreycc.gov.uk/schoolappeals
