Welcome to Sixth Form
Our aim at Tomlinscote Sixth Form College is very simple: we want to ensure that every student in our care achieves their true potential. Already recognised by OFSTED (in May 2011) as an Outstanding Sixth Form College, we continue to provide a wide range of students with the highest quality of education. Our success is achieved through outstanding teaching, through the support we provide our students, and through the opportunities we offer outside of the classroom.
With high quality teaching in a supportive environment students can grow and learn in appropriately sized classes. We offer support and guidance to all students to ensure they learn and progress throughout their time here. In addition, we offer students a range of fantastic opportunities to broaden their experiences through our vast extra-curricular programme. We also expect every learner to contribute some of their time to volunteering, both within and beyond the school. As a Sixth Form College attached to a main school, we feel that this advantage provides students with limitless possibilities to contribute to the Tomlinscote community and enables them to develop lifelong skills that will help them on whichever pathway they pursue beyond the Sixth Form. This, I believe, is what makes a young person rounded and attractive to an employer or to a university admissions tutor.
Tomlinscote is currently both an A-level Sixth Form College as well as a provider of first class vocational qualifications in a range of industry-based sectors. However, it is anticipated that we will specialise in the vocational and technical qualifications with effect from September 2018. I am proud that we currently offer a range of Level Two and Level Three technical and industry related work ready courses in areas such as Creative Media Production, Catering, Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Construction, Football Coaching and Childcare. These courses are hosted in our impressive state of the art Vocational Centre situated at the entrance to our school site. The Sixth Form and its students, steered by our Sixth Form Leadership, is therefore entirely in touch with industry and the requirements of the modern workplace. I am delighted to report that many of our students go on to serve apprenticeships before taking up skilled roles in their chosen field. Employers frequently report that they will only consider Tomlinscote students for apprenticeships due of the quality of our course experiences.
I encourage you to visit our Sixth Form and to see our students in action. I have no doubt that you will witness our young people moving confidently towards employment or Higher Education.
