At Tomlinscote 6th Form College we offer a unique experience to students wishing to acquire training within the Childcare and early years education industry. We offer industry-based, nationally accredited training on all aspects of the childcare sector which is teamed with weekly work placements within early years education centres throughout the entirety of the course. These regular and ongoing work placements allow the students to apply their training from College to a real life work situation, both at Level 2 and Level 3:
The Level 2 and Level 3 Childcare CACHE courses have been developed to give students both the knowledge and practical skills to use within the Childcare industry. The courses study child development from a baby to a 7 year old child. Students learn about the theories behind different aspects of child development on a modular course that is structured into 18 units which include health and welfare, social care and well-being. Specifically, students will acquire the knowledge and awareness of children’s learning styles, the roles and responsibilities of looking after children and are introduced to everyday care routines and activities to support the differing stages of transition throughout childhood.
On the Cache course, at both Level 2 and Level 3, students spend two days a week in local pre-schools learning how to look after young children in a practical situation. The students on the course are assessed over a wide variety of tasks, both in College and on work placement. Students are based in a purpose built room within the College.
What do we offer?
We can offer both the Level 2 and Level 3 CACHE courses and there are progression routes available which are suited to all types of learner and this is dependent upon the entry criteria achieved by the learner at the start of the course.
- Students who possess 5 A*-C grades (or equivalent), including English and Maths, at GCSE can commence the Level 3 CACHE Diploma immediately. This is a two year course which is assessed through a variety of ways both in College and out at work placement.
Students who do not possess the entry criteria for the Level 3 CACHE Diploma (outlined above) may start on the Level 2 qualification in their first year. Progression onto the Level 3 Diploma can take place in the second year of Sixth Form and students can then begin to study the two yearlong Level 3 Diploma in their second and third years at College.
