What makes our provision unique here at Tomlinscote is our ability to personalise our qualifications to the requirement of the individual. Our small class sizes enable us to provide one to one support to students as they progress on their courses and our tutors are able to tailor the respective courses to the desires of the student. The module structure of each qualification requires that mandatory units are covered but if there is a desire is or passion for a particular area of the course (to include more patisserie work for example) then this can be accommodated through additional modules.

We are very proud of our outstanding facilities here at Tomlinscote; students work in a fully equipped industrial kitchen and run a full lunch and dinner service in our Vocational Centre café which enables them to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding in a fully functioning Catering environment. In addition, students also have external work placements out in the Catering industry throughout their course which enables them to further their experience, knowledge and skills of each aspect of the qualification. They are assessed (both in College and out on work placement) through observations, practical projects and written assessments.

The City and Guilds Professional Cookery qualification is internationally recognised and is, in many cases, a requirement for entry into the catering profession. After this course, students may progress on to a full-time Level 3 Catering course, a traineeship, an Apprenticeship or into employment. We have many success stories with past students currently placed in positions at Penny Hill Park Hotel and Country Club in Bagshot and on apprenticeship programmes at Tante Marie in Woking.
