Our aim at Tomlinscote Sixth Form College is very simple: we want to be the best provider of post-16 education in the country. Therefore, we offer an increasing number of high quality, industry based technical awards in our state of the art vocational centre. Already recognised by OFSTED (in May 2011) as an ‘Outstanding’ Sixth Form College, our vocational courses enable us to offer an incredibly broad curriculum that suits all manner of learners. We pride ourselves on offering the most supportive teaching in a familiar and suitable structured where all students can grow and learn in appropriately sized classes.
In addition, we offer students a range of fantastic opportunities to broaden their experiences through our thriving and ever expanding enrichment and extra-curricular programme. We also expect every learner to contribute some of their time to volunteering, both within and beyond the school. This, I believe, is what makes a young person rounded and attractive to an employer or to a university admissions tutor. Students will have access to a wide range of trips offered by many of our subject staff.
Tomlinscote offers a range of Level Two and Level Three vocational courses and technical awards in the following areas:
Professional Catering (Level 2 and Level 3 courses available)
Beauty Therapy (Level 2 and Level 3 courses available)
Hairdressing/Barbering (Level 2 and Level 3 courses available)
Construction - includes the option of both Site Carpentry and Brick Laying (Level 2 and Level 3 courses available)
Football Coaching (Level 2 VRQ and Level 3 BTEC courses available)
Childcare (Level 2 and Level 3 CACHE courses available)
Level 3 BTEC in Creative Media Production
These courses are hosted in our impressive new Vocational Centre situated at the entrance to our school site. The Sixth Form and its students, led by the Students’ Union, and steered by our Sixth Form Leadership, is therefore entirely in touch with industry and the requirements of the modern workplace. I’m delighted to report that many of our students go on to serve apprenticeships before taking up skilled roles in their chosen field. Employers frequently report that they will only consider Tomlinscote students for apprenticeships due of the quality of our course experiences.
I encourage you to visit our Sixth Form and to see our students in action and we would be delighted to show you round and give you a tour of our outstanding facilities. I have no doubt that you will witness learning of the highest quality and you will see young people moving confidently towards employment or Higher Education. When you visit us, you will find a vibrant community of young people and teaching staff who are learning and developing together.
Should you choose to join us to study, you will be doing so at the very best moment – this Sixth Form is not only outstanding but is thriving and growing.
